Samsung is reportedly working on new S Pen technology specifically designed for its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold foldable smartphones. While fans have long awaited a foldable with a built-in S Pen slot, a recent report suggests that the company still faces technical challenges in making that happen.
According to a report by The Elec, Samsung is focusing on enhancing the user experience of the S Pen with future Fold models. The foldable form factor has made it difficult to include a stylus slot due to design limitations, especially with space constraints around the hinge mechanism.
Instead of forcing a physical slot into the current design, Samsung is said to be refining the S Pen's performance and precision, potentially offering a more seamless stylus experience without changing the form factor dramatically.
While the Galaxy Z Fold 5 already supports S Pen input (via separate purchase), it lacks integrated storage for the stylus, making portability less convenient. This limitation is something Samsung reportedly aims to address in the coming years, though an in-body S Pen for Fold may not arrive until at least 2026 or later.
The company is expected to reveal its next generation of foldables — Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 — at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 26, where any updates on stylus support might be unveiled.
